Hikes & Trails

Hoyt – Hall Preserve – Marshfield, MA

Last weekend was absolutely b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l! Sunny, warmish (above 40), and no wind! We have been dying to visit the Hoyt – Hall Preserve in Marshfield and it was the perfect day for it.

The trail is part of the Wildlands Trust and the overall location is 123 acres, plus it has just about everything. There are views of two ponds (fresh water and a marsh) where apparently a rare bird the American bittern can be spotted, a small waterfall, a few bridges and even travels up a few hills that our almost 3 year old thought were mountains. The parking lot is pretty small and fills up rather quickly and parking isn’t allowed on the road (although there are always cars parked there). It’s really a great hike in the woods though if you manage to get a spot, and there are benches along the way to stop and have a snack like our kids did.

The main trail is 1.7 miles and goes all through the woods behind the Winslow House in Marshfield. There are a few bridges which is always a plus, but the views of the ponds are really pretty and peaceful. Something else cool about this trail is you get to walk the same place the Wampanoag did back in the 1630s. There are two parts of the trail that you can travel that were used as the coastal route for the Native Americans, the Pilgrim Trail and King Philips Trail.

We really enjoyed it here, and there were a lot of other family’s with littles on there so you know it’s definitely doable!
