Hikes & Trails

Spinnaker Island – Hull, MA

Over the summer we were really craving a trip to Newport. It’s one of our favorite places and we missed just about everything it has to offer, from Polo to the foodie scene, the cliff walk and the mansions it’s just a real treat to be kinda sorta close. We really had been dying to take our kids to Fort Adam’s, I mean we make enough forts in the playroom we wanted to show him a real one! Well we finally did make it down there in November but in the meantime I tired searching for a fort near us, without having to travel to Castle Hill in Boston.

That’s when I stumbled upon Spinnaker Island and Fort Duvall in Hull and what a spooky little place it was!!

According to some internet articles I read the fort was built in the 1920s and it’s sole purpose was to protect from people approaching Boston Harbor. I also read that there are bodies of enemies buried on the hill which is about the same time I stopped googling stuff since we were already in the parking lot. Anyways, there’s not too much of a hike here but there are some really cool views of Hull, some other Harbor islands and of Boston.

If you’re a history buff I’d recommend a visit, but if you get the heebee jeebees when you drive by a cemetery like I do you’ll want to travel elsewhere.
