Harbor Park – Marshfield, MA
On a day that is just me and my daughter I usually try and look for a walk outside that is pavement, or at least a little smooth so I can take the stroller, definitely a lot easier when it’s just the two of us instead of having her in the carrier. I feel like I’m always on the hunt for places that are further away that I forget what we have on the other side of town. So, today we trekked over to Brant Rock to the Harbor Park in Marshfield near the Town Pier.
Harbor Park itself is one of the locations that is connected by the Harbor Walk. It’s a town park but is maintained by the Marshfield Kiwanis Club and is a perfect spot for a picnic or to watch the kayakers in the marina. In 2019 Marshfield held the first annual Lobster Fest at Harbor Park which we loved, of course the 2020 event didn’t occur but hopefully it’ll be back in some fashion this year!
From the Harbor Park parking lot you can head to the right down the sidewalk towards the Marshfield Wastewater Treatment plant where a sidewalk across the street will allow you to cut over to the Brant Rock esplanade. Entering this area will introduce you to a ton of great restaurants, Haddad’s Ocean Café, The Jetty, The Brant Rock Hop, Venus II and a little further up the road is the Grill at the Fairview Inn. There are also some shops along the esplanade and in the surrounding area including The Bohemian Babe-Boho to Go or The Shoppes at Brant Rock where you’ll find Sand & Water. The Brant Rock Market is also here, where on a summer day I’m pretty sure people line up down the street for their chicken salad sandwiches.

Walking through the esplanade you’ll find a sidewalk that leads you all the way down Ocean Street where you can take a right at the end and head back towards the town pier. Another yummy restaurant is right next to the new Harbormaster building here, The Point, which has a great view of the Harbor. On the other end of Ocean Street is where Blackmans Point is located along with Blue Fish Cove RV Park. It’s mostly private and there’s no outlet on the end, although it did at one point house a 420 foot radio tower which is known as the “world’s first voice radio broadcast”. Back at the pier you’ll spot all the lobster boats which last summer were selling lobster’s straight from the sea, I really hope they do that again!
If you choose not to cross the road to the esplanade you can continue on down Dyke Road until the end where you’ll spot Peter Igo Park. This launch is a great place to put in a kayak! We did it a bunch last summer and even took our son with us. The water leads you down towards the Daniel Webster Bird Sanctuary or the Marshfield Airport, its’ really great and calm and one of the few places the tides don’t really matter. A little further up the road there’s also a playground which is located on Tower Ave, it’s great for kids and has one of those flowers they sit in and great really dizzy, not sure how any one can actually use those but my son loves them!
Overall, great spot for a walk with a stroller! Also, there’s a bridge from the pier to the park so it gets at least a one on the bridge rating! To be honest, you could really spend a whole day in the area, from the park to the playground, the restaurants to the shops I really have to venture to that side of town more. Plus, seals always hang out on the rocks by the Brant Rock Seawall so if you’re lucky you might spot some!
