Drumlin Farms Wildlife Sanctuary – Lincoln, MA
Today was a perfect day for a vacation day adventure. I’ve had my eye on the Mass Audubon Drumlin Farm Wildlife Sanctuary for quite a while and I decided on Monday when I checked the weather for the week I was taking today off to visit it with my kids. Sometimes during the week I feel like I can never give anything 100% of my attention, kids, work, family, husband, dogs, house, it’s definitely hard to divide my time, so it’s really important to me to make sure I get some quality time with my babies where I’m not constantly checking my email.
Drumlin Farms is located in Lincoln, MA about 35 minutes West of Boston and is a perfect place to visit! There are plenty of animals to see which currently include some absolutely adorable baby goats and sheep, tons of trails, hayrides and classrooms (both TBD on those though based on COVID restrictions) and a bunch of picnic and play areas. Tickets for the Farm can be purchased usually up to two days in advance, and you have an hour to enter based on the time you select.
Overall, we had a blast and both my kids couldn’t have loved it anymore. We traveled through the Sanctuary trail, the Drumlin Loop, Overlook Connector and over to the Boyce Field Loop. Of course we also did main All-Person’s trail which is where you see all the barns, animals and tractors and then made our way to the Forest Discovery Trail before turning back. The All Person’s trail is great, it’s stroller friendly, wide and travels by the sheep, chickens, goats, pigs, cows and birds. There’s also a Mass Audubon store where we stopped in to grab a few books for the ride home.
I originally had planned on having a picnic at the farm for lunch but realized that we were done in about 2-2 1/2 hours and so we decided to pack up and head to Houghton’s Pond instead to eat. Best decision I could have made. It was like two adventures for the kids out of one. Have you ever visited Houghton’s Pond?? There is so much to do there! There’s a giant playground, a whole bunch of fields, countless picnics spots and between that area and Blue Hills Reservation which is right down the street there are tons and tons of trails!
So, our adventure day today was a huge hit and I recommend it to anyone looking for something to do with their kids! We booked the earliest time slot at Drumlin so we got there at around 9am and spent the morning, headed to Houghton’s pond and then ended up with an ice cream at Hornstra Farms. Perfect day spend with my two little munchkin besties.
