Dyed pasta sensory tray
Boy it’s been a while since I’ve had even five minutes to myself to get a blog written! Between kids, work, busy books, the construction at our house, dogs, or just life in general things have really been picking up around here! Like the rest of Massachusetts we are super excited, cautions and READY for our little world to start opening back up and exploring some things we haven’t been able to in a year now that restrictions have lifted here and our crew is happily all vaccinated. This past weekend was Memorial Day and we got to spend times with friends and family we haven’t seen in many many months and it was wonderful.
If you live in the area you know we had a less than ideal kick off to summer for Memorial Day weekend, but we did get to still enjoy a trip into Boston which was seriously so great even in the cold and rain because at 1 1/2 it was my daughters FIRST time in the city! (crazy right)
Besides cookouts and a trip into Boston I also created this sensory tray for my kids to play with while I tried to get some party food ready for my husbands bday. This tray was really easy, it just took a little prep the day before to plan since I used dyed pasta and wanted it to be dried thoroughly. To color the pasta I grabbed two bags of rigatoni from the grocery store and a bag of bowtie pasta and poured each into zip locks bags. I gave the bags a few squirts of paint and shook them until all the pasta was covered and then poured them out onto plastic-wrap covered cookie sheets. After the pasta dried off I added them into this tray I bought from Michaels which I love. I actually bought a whole bunch of them because they are great for crafts, coloring, writing and sensory trays! I also added in a few other doodads I found from our recent trip to Michaels, like some red pom poms, a couple sparkly pipe cleaners, cupcake liners, flags, pinwheels, you name it I think I threw it in there. You can add whatever you have into the colored pasta and make it your own! I don’t know if you’ve ever played with dried pasta but it’s actually a really fun medium, hence why I ended up playing with the tray just as much as the kids did.
