North Conway, NH
If you follow along with my blog or Instagram account (@humarockmom) you know we just returned from North Conway, NH about a week ago! Both my husband and myself grew up going to North Conway, or the surrounding areas when we were little on vacation and I remember our trips up to Bretton Woods like they were yesterday. We’re so excited to get to share the experiences our parents shared with us with our kids. Over the last year we’ve been fortunate to visit North Conway in the Summer, Fall and Winter and each season has something unique to offer. My amazingly generous bestie has let us use her condo…

[Vegan 30 Minute] Italian Wedding Soup
This past soup Sunday I was in need of an easy dish. We spent two straight days sledding, building snow men, having snow ball fights and every other snow activity a three and one year old can do. So, I was just plain exhausted. That’s when I decided on making my own version of Italian Wedding soup. So easy, so quick, so yummy and only one pot, so *not* so many dishes. If you aren’t into the vegan/vegetarian lifestyle you can always substitue for meaty meatballs and chicken broth, otherwise scroll for the recipe! Italian Wedding Soup Prep Time: 5 minutes Cook Time: 25 minutes Total Time: 30 Minutes Serves:…

Bubble Foam
My kids LOVE bubble foam. I’ve made it a few times and every time [no fail] they play with it for at least an hour. It’s only a few ingredients that you’d most likely already have in your cabinets, and after your done everything will be nice and clean, since it’ll be covered in soap ;o) We play with the foam usually in our sensory/ craft table that my husband built. Unless I’m super lazy and don’t feel like venturing to the 2nd playroom in the basement, then we just play with it in buckets on the kitchen floor. All you need for this activity is water, corn starch, dish…

Detox Cabbage Soup
We spent last weekend up in North Conway, NH and it was so fun! My lovely bestie has a condo up North and has been letting us use it for our family vacations during Covid time. It’s basically the only place we’ve been in a year and my son now refers to their house is ” ‘cation”. Hopefully in the near future we’ll be able to go WITH them to their condo, but for now I’m so thankful we’ve been able to have somewhere to escape! We had a blast up there over the weekend though. We tubed at Cranmore Mountain which by son absolutely LOVED. I actually don’t think…

30 Minute Empanadas
It’s Tuesday so you know we’re having some sort of South or Latin American cuisine! Tonight I made some empanadas and they were so good the whole family enjoyed them which always makes me happy! These only take 30 minutes because they are made with premade pie dough, which saves a lot of time for a busy fam! Empanadas can be baked or fried, I usually bake everything instead of frying because I hate the smell that hot oil used for frying food leaves in the house. You can also fill empanadas with just about anything you like, I used beans, corn and left over sweet potatoes and they were…

Webster’s Wilderness – Marshfield, MA
Everyone, or almost everyone, around the South Shore has probably visited the Daniel Webster Bird Sanctuary. If not for the awesome trails there (check out my prior posts) then you probably attended the, pre-Covid, farm day. It was the best, which is saying a lot because I think in 2019 we went to at least 100 different ones that fall…I can’t wait for that part of “normal” to return. I would bet less people are familiar with the Webster’s Wilderness Conservation Land in Marshfield. It’s a 130 acre forest that is just a few minutes down the road from the Bird Sanctuary. In order to access the Webster’s Wilderness you’ll…

Coast Guard Hill – Marshfield, MA
Growing up in Marshfield Coast Guard Hill was pretty much just “the place to go sledding” but now as an adult I’ve really enjoyed taking my kids there. Never mind for the simple reason the giant hill really tires them out walking to the top, but the views are a-maz-ing. You can see basically all of Humarock when you reach the top and it’s incredible. When you make it to the top of the hill there’s a bench there along with some trails through the woods. They loop around down, I think my son counted, 45 stairs to the Marshfield Recreaction Department building. I’ve heard in a recent Marshfield Zoning…

Soule Homestead Education Center – Middleboro, MA
I swear there was a time this summer I visited every farm within an hour of us. In July we visited the Soule Homestead Farm in Middleboro and although it was a million degrees it was pretty cool and had different animals than we were used to seeing. There were goats here, that were so silly and got really up close and personal with photobombing our selfies. There’s also some baby goats that you can feed, I believe thanks to COVID you need a reservation though, plus you also probably want to check that’s still happening in the winter. We saw pigs, chickens and some livestock, that really scared the…

Holly Hill Farm – Cohasset, MA
If you follow me on Instagram you’ve seen me rave about Holly Hill Farm in Cohasset. I just love it there! It’s the perfect place to visit with my two kids and we’ve participated in so many of their activities. They have a few different animals, Benji the Sicilian Donkey, Pumpkin the Pony, three goats and a whole bunch of chickens and roosters. We always stop by to say hello to them on a day we aren’t exploring nature (or even when we are, Wheelwright Park is right down the street, check out our visit to the trail on the Hiking & Trails section of my blog) They have other…

Dalby Farms – Scituate, MA
I’ve lived in and around Marshfield and Humarock basically my whole life and I’m embarrassed to say I’d never been to Dalby Farm in Scituate before and what a shame! It is such a cute little family farm!! You can see on their website that COVID has had such a devastating impact on their business like so many other places, but they offer Family Animal Encounters and I would definitely recommend it for kids! Our Family Animal Encounter at Dalby Farm was for 30 minutes where we walked around and saw all the farm animals. They do require reservations so make sure you look at their website first. They have…
