Maple Swamp Conservation, Sandwich Ma
It’s the first day of February break, are your kids already telling you they’re bored? How about you, are you already overstimulated by how these little Tasmanian devils can dirty up their 1st pair of clothes, dishes and playrooms all before 9 am?? This year we are doing a staycation, which I swore we wouldn’t do after last February vacation, but here we are! Thankfully the weather forecast doesn’t look terrible and today the sun is already shining! To help keep you and yours busy this week, I’ll be sharing a few fun day trips, hikes, playgrounds and science experiences that we’ve been doing together. The first day trip takes you…

Visit a local farm!
February Vacation is upon us on the South Shore and we have basically nothing planned, which is great but also a bit of a stressor for me. Since I don’t have the week off from work it’s important for me to keep the kids busy (and at times out of my hair while I’m in meetings) but easier said than done am I right? There is one go-to activity that I always count on during a time we have nothing planned, visiting a local farm! Lucky for us there are numerous ones throughout the area! Take a look with me at some of our favorite ones and see what they…

Norris Reservation – Norwell, MA
If you live around the South Shore and enjoy spending time outside you are probably familiar with The Trustees. They are an organization that care for over 100 places in the State and over 27,000 acres. According to thetrustees.org website their areas of focus include Land Conservation, Arts, , Agriculture, Horticulture and Ecology to name a few. Some of our favorite family hikes and locations are Trustees locations and Norris Reservation is no exception. Norris Reservation is located in Norwell, MA and is a popular dog walking spot so if you have a shy little pup like we do make sure you’re aware that yours most likely won’t be the…

Ellisville Harbor State Park – Plymouth , MA
Did you know there are over 160 state parks in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts?? You can visit the mass.gov website if you are looking for a comprehensive list of all the parks and reservations in the state, including the ten that are listed in Plymouth County! The Ellisville State Park, along with all the State Parks is managed and maintained by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, the parking lot free, and open every day from sun up until sun down. The Ellisville Harbor State Park, located in Plymouth is definitely a unique state park and a hidden gem in the area. The hike is very family friendly, although…

Lansing Bennett Forest – Duxbury, MA
The Lansing Bennett Forest, formerly known as Trout Farm Conservation, is definitely a hidden, less known hike on the South Shore, it’s located in Duxbury and is about a 3 mile loop around the property . The Forest is named after Dr. Lansing Bennett who came to Duxbury in 1952. He was a Conservationist who Chaired the Duxbury Conservation Commission in the 1960s and 70s. According to the North South River Watershed website, “during his tenure, the town obtained over 1200 acres of conservation land.” I was intrigued by the brief description of Dr. Lansing Bennet’s life on the NSRWA website so I did a little more digging and found…

Fogg Forest – Norwell, MA
If you’ve driven down RT. 123 through Norwell Center you’ve passed by the Fogg Forest and chances are you may not have even noticed, sometimes I’m distracted by the llamas that live right there too! In 2019/2020 the Fogg Forest went through a bit of a upgrade when a new fence was installed at the entrance and the town acquired the Carleton property, which added an additional 40 acres to the already 100+ acre Forest. The sign from Main Street in Norwell for the Fogg Forest is a bit confusing, it look me a minute to figure out where to park, but ultimately the deal is pull through the fence…

Tidmarsh – Plymouth , MA
This week was one of the hardest weeks I could have ever imagined. On Tuesday December 28th we laid to rest our beloved dog Bruschi, the sweetest, cuddliest and best friend I could have EVER imagined over the last 14 years. We knew the day was coming but I still couldn’t have prepared for the saddest that was about to hit our house. After the loss of Bru the thought of being home literally hurt my heart so we threw ourselves into nature and explored a few places that I’ve been wanting to check out in the area. On Wednesday we visited Tidmarsh in Plymouth, a Mass Audubon location that…

Marshfield Bridle Rail Trail
Can you even believe we are one week away from Christmas?? If you stepped outside today to the 60 degree weather you may think Halloween was right around the corner instead but nope, it’s actually mid-December. It’s been a crazy few weeks in our house, more so I suppose than usual, between the dozens of Busy Binder orders, cookie orders, baby girls 2nd birthday party and just all around Holiday planning my mind has been pulled in a 100 different directions. So, today I decided I needed a day off from all of it, with only one thing on my agenda: spending time with my two silly kiddos. We are…

Bike & Stroller Friendly Trails
New England in the Fall can be a really special time, the changing leaves, the crisp air and the hours spent outside are favorites for us. If you’ve ever lived somewhere that doesn’t truly experience the different seasons like I did in College you appreciate them little more when you come back home. Over the last year and a half I’ve been checking out all sorts of trails around us on the South Shore and something I didn’t ever realize before having babies was that stroller friendly ones are few and far between. Now, with so many more people looking to get out with their families I thought I’d write…

Drumlin Farms Wildlife Sanctuary – Lincoln, MA
Today was a perfect day for a vacation day adventure. I’ve had my eye on the Mass Audubon Drumlin Farm Wildlife Sanctuary for quite a while and I decided on Monday when I checked the weather for the week I was taking today off to visit it with my kids. Sometimes during the week I feel like I can never give anything 100% of my attention, kids, work, family, husband, dogs, house, it’s definitely hard to divide my time, so it’s really important to me to make sure I get some quality time with my babies where I’m not constantly checking my email. Drumlin Farms is located in Lincoln, MA…
